Critiquing/Reviewing Research Services
Are you going to accept that report at “face-value”?
Did you hear the one about the three blindfolded men describing an elephant?
Good “external” opinions help to balance your “internal” decisions: Yin and Yang, Devil's advocate, et al.
Did you know?
Most economic data is regression-based sampling and is national or
regional in scope – which means it may not have any validity for
forecasting or for your locality.
Most opinion-survey data is demographically not
representative (not stratified), despite claims of the survey's
random sampling and statistical significance. Be careful about
generalizing, the data may not even merit lieutenant bars.
“An exhaustive search” may mean the author got thoroughly
tired, not thoroughly busy.
What was “cited” was “seen” but not necessarily understood,
nor appropriate. What was missed?
Most reports go through “internal cleansing” before becoming
final. Good ones get a “veracity rinse.” Poor ones get a
“political bleaching” – resulting in faded appearance, lots
of holes and a report that is too weak to withstand the “wear and
tear” of an outside review.
These and other factors make data-utilization, generalizations and report-conclusions very precarious for your operations. Don't rely on a straw bridge to get you there! Make sure your foundation is sturdy.
Get those reports critiqued by someone without a vested interest for or against your organization.
Let me critique your report – from internal or external
sources – utilizing my 25+ years of professional
experience.
I'll provide written interpretations and judgment of the veracity
and efficacy of the report, its data and the sources. I'll ensure
your data stays confidential. And I won't charge for my review if it
is not what we agreed it would be. [Agreement details supplied in my
